BJ Penn Signs Contract to Face Frankie Edgar at UFC 118 (Video)

UFC Lightweight Champ BJ Penn

The highly anticipated rematch between lightweight champ Frankie Edgar and former king BJ Penn moved one step closer towards reality when Penn inked his UFC 118 contract Friday afternoon.

MMAFighting.com reported Edgar had signed and submitted his bout agreement earlier in the day.

Penn and Edgar battled for 25 grueling minutes at UFC 112 in some of the most difficult rounds to score in mixed martial arts history. One extra jab here or a flurry there could have meant the difference between leaving Abu Dhabi with UFC gold.

Following the loss, Penn’s longtime coach, Rudy Valentino, stated Penn had suffered a sinus infection and was on antibiotics leading up to the fight – and that may have played a role in the Hawaiian’s sluggish performance.

Penn might not have had his mojo that night, but Edgar gladly took advantage by shocking the MMA world with a unanimous decision victory en route to capturing the 155-pound title.

UFC 118 will be jumping off August 28th inside the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts – home of the loathed Boston Celtics.
