In unfortunate news for fight fans everywhere, Manny Pacquiao won’t be fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. on March 13th… Or ever.
Sure there may be details that the public might not ever know regarding the breakdown of the contract negotiations.
Both fighters were set to make millions off of the biggest boxing bout in over a decade but it seems as though something as simple as drug testing was the final straw.
According to ESPN, the fighters had agreed to unlimited urine testing but Mayweather wanted random blood testing as well, similar to the Olympic system.
Pacquiao was willing to have blood drawn for testing on the week of the kickoff press conference, anytime before the final 30-days of training camp and in the locker room immediately after the bout.
Mayweather wasn’t buying it and wanted the Olympic-style drug testing which he himself would’ve had to adhere to as well.
When the fight was officially canceled, Mayweather went on a verbal tirade on his now former opponent, “first and foremost, not only do I want to fight Manny Pacquiao, I want to whip his punk ass,” Mayweather said in a statement.
It’s still possible that the bout could take place at a future date but Pacquiao’s camp is already looking to find other suitable opponents.
