Medical Beat: Ohio’s trial run for amateur cruiserweight division is a worthy endeavor

Earlier this month, MMAjunkie.com issued a report about the Ohio Athletic Commission’s trial run of an amateur heavyweight division.

And though his latest column – which praised some state athletic commissions – was widely panned by readers, MMAjunkie.com medical columnist Dr. Johnny Benjamin once again turns his focus to the regulation of mixed martial arts.

In his latest “Medical Beat” installment, Dr. Benjamin explains why it’s important to gather data on a cruiserweight division, especially when it comes to amateur fighters who don’t always know how to deal with big weight discrepancies and first-time weight-cutting.
