UFC Heavyweight Pat Barry

Pat Barry ran the gamut of emotions Saturday night at UFC 115. Not only was he “tickled pink” to be the co-main event of an Octagon pay-per-view show, but he got to face his longtime idol, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, as well.

Barry came out with guns blazing against Cro Cop, dropping him twice in the opening stanza. Unfortunately for the heavyweight, his good fortunes ended there, as he witnessed CC turn back the hands of time to show American fans what he’s capable of.

Although watching Cro Cop circa 2005 perform last night was interesting, it appears we may now know why the 30-year-old Barry wasn’t the same fighter he was in the final two rounds.

“For the record, Barry has a broken hand and a broken foot,” UFC president Dana White said during the post-fight press conference.

Barry Tweeted this picture of himself Paul Pierce’ing it through the airport on Sunday:

Barry also stated on his Twitter that he broke his right haymaker at some point during the 1stRound, however wasn’t sure when his foot went to pieces.

Regardless, White believes Barry should have finished the legend in the scrap’s early ticks and that Barry can blame his starstruck status for drastically affecting his killer instinct.

“No doubt about it,” White said when asked if Barry made a mistake by not capitalizing on his early knockdowns. “He respected Cro Cop, but kind of had this feeling like I know I’m going to take him out tonight. I think he played that fight all wrong.”
