UFC light heavyweight Keith Jardine

Keith Jardine will no longer be fighting in the Octagon, as the UFC announced on Thursday that they have released the former “Ultimate Fighter” contestant.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the decision with MMAFighting following Jardine’s loss against Matt Hamill at “The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale.”

“The Dean of Mean” was never able to win consecutive fights, compiling a 6-7 record during 13 appearances for the UFC.

“It sucks,” White told MMAFighting. “I have nothing but respect for him and I hope to see him back soon.”

UFC 76 was the highlight of Jardine’s Octagon career as he thoroughly beat Chuck Liddell in “The Iceman’s” first fight since losing his 205-pound title to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

From there it was all downhill for the Greg Jackson trained fighter who lost five out of his last six fights, including a brutal :36 second knockout at the hands of Wanderlei Silva at UFC 84.

On a side note, Jardine did win “Fight of the Night” honors at the TUF 11 Finale in his majority decision loss to Hamill.
